Meet the Team
Pushpa Thapa
Hi, I am Pushpa Thapa.
My story of love and happiness is probably almost like most Nepali arranged marriages.
Born and raised in Northwest London, a rebellious, yet sweet and cultured young 19 year old girl that I once was, my parents decided it was time to set me up with a boy. I always knew this would be the way, so I was open minded to proceed. Off I went to Nepal to seek ‘the one’, luckily my parents had arranged this meeting prior to me arriving in Kathmandu, so it was only a few days wait.
On the balcony of my Uncles home we met, we sat and talked about common interests, work , education and football. My heart pumping and unable to look directly at him (totally filmy), the confident NW London girl had butterflies in her stomach and in a cliché moment I knew he was the one. After 26 years of marriage, here I am with 3 children aged 24, 19 and 11. I want to share my knowledge, experiences and intuition with you, to hopefully introduce you to your connection. We are a very modern and relatable team, we may be part of Gen X, but our minds and souls are connected to the new.
Kalpana Lamichhanne
Namaste, my name is Kalpana Lamichhane. I have been happily married to my husband Basanta for the last 21 years. We had what people would refer to as a ‘love marriage’ and we are an intercaste couple, my husband being Bahun and myself being from the Magar community. Of course, having been born and bred in the UK, caste was a weird concept to me so when my 15 year old self clapped my eyes on my husband who was a very handsome 17 year old young man at the time and we started dating some 2 years later, I did not think there would be any issues with getting married later as he was Nepali too right? Well, after a long and rather filmy batch of events, involving both our families, my husband and I were finally able to tie the knot in the summer of 2001. Fast forward 21 years later, we have a son and daughter together and a cat and we have never looked back since. For me, he is not only my husband, but my best friend and I’m glad fate enabled us to find each other.”
Kanchan Thapa Basnet
Namaste! I’m Kanchan Thapa, happily married to the love of my life, Ranjan. I was born in the UK and my hubby was born and bred in Nepal. We got together via friends and family ‘referral’. Honestly, I was so against meeting someone from Nepal. I kept telling myself we would have nothing in common and would he even want to move to the UK after we married? After begrudgingly going to Nepal to chat to him on a one to one basis, I ended up engaged within the week and married after a year. It wasn’t a case of ‘love at first sight’, more a connection of beliefs and the feeling that we could grow together. Probably not the most romantic of starts, but honestly the feeling I got when I met him was like coming in from a cold, rainy night and warming myself before an open fire. 19 years later, we have twin 13 year old girls, who are forever trying our patience. Happy and content (most days at least), I’m hoping to help others find their happy ever after too!
